About the Cherry Brush

The Cherry Brush - an online haven for Oriental art, brush paintings, scrolls, wall hangings, murals and calligraphy - was founded by Ben (British) and Qingxiao (Chinese) in the early months of 2008.

The site stems from a long-term enjoyment of travel, culture and art that the pair share. Between them, they have visited over 15 countries across many continents, though no cultures quite impacted in the same way that of the Orient - China, Japan, Korea etc - did.

It was during a 3 month trip around China that Ben accidentally stumbled upon a small, local market of artists in the city of LanZhou (North East China). Within this market, Ben found a huge array of artistic offerings, ranging from hand paintings right through to interestingly natural shaped rocks (we would love to offer such rocky artwork on the site, though postage fees may be exceptionally high!).

The foundations of the site began when Ben picked up a few paintings to bring back to the UK as gifts for friends and family (as well as for his own living room). The receivers of such gifts were blown away by the quality and depth of the pieces and longed to find out more; guests who saw the pieces were equally impressed and began to enquire as to how they too could get hold of some. It appeared that it was pretty tricky, unless you were willing to fly 5,000 miles round the globe to pick them up yourself!

...and so the idea for the website came about.

The pair discussed and figured out a means of bringing such artworks to a UK and potentially world-wide audience via a website. They hoped that this website (the Cherry Brush) could eventually become the online art shop for Chinese, Japanese, and Oriental brush paintings, art, scrolls and calligraphy.

The site's popularity increases day on day, recieving more and more visitors, and orders too. And as a result, we would like to thank you all for your continued support throughout this project, and vow to bring you the artwork that the bare-spot on your living room wall has been begging for!
